UNUSUAL SUSPECTS: The Hobbit illustrated by Maurice Sendak?

What if Maurice Sendak, creator of the timeless Where the Wild Thing Are, had illustrated J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy The Hobbit ?  It's not as far-fetched as it sounds.
